.tr WHOIS Lookup

It does. The whole .tr family is answered by one server, whois.trabis.gov.tr, and the sub-zones have no WHOIS address of their own. A name registered directly under .tr and a name under com.tr or org.tr are read with the same query and come back in the same field structure. That is not a given among country code extensions: in some countries the second-level zones were handed to separate organisations, each running its own server.

That IP is a glue record. When a domain uses name servers inside its own zone — something like ns1.example.tr — a resolver cannot find the address of that server without help, so the IP has to be stored in the parent zone. TRABIS publishes that value in the WHOIS reply as well; in the record we measured, both name server lines carried one. If the servers sit in another zone, no glue is needed and only the host name appears.

TRABIS writes dates with an abbreviated month and a trailing dot, on the Created on and Expires on lines of the additional info block. The last update time carries Türkiye's own time zone offset rather than UTC. Because every generic extension uses UTC and an ISO layout, a date parser written for .com output will not read this correctly. On our result screen the dates are already converted to a common format.

At the level of the title, yes. The first line of the registrant block carries the organisation or personal title, and it was open in the record we measured. The four lines that follow hold address, phone, fax and email; when the holder has requested it, all four read Hidden upon user request. So the question of who holds the name is answered, while the contact question usually is not — the route there is the registrar of record.

That value comes from the vocabulary TRABIS maintains itself and says the name has an active registration. Do not read it as an EPP code: in generic extensions the status line carries codes such as clientTransferProhibited, each with an entry in ICANN's shared dictionary. TRABIS instead splits status across three separate lines — the domain's status, its frozen status and its transfer status — and writes each in its own words.

They are. We ran the measurement against a gov.tr address on purpose, and the reply came back in the same shape as any other sub-zone: holder title, registrar block, domain servers and dates. Registration rules differ in these sub-zones, but WHOIS grants them no exemption and imposes no extra restriction. Being queryable and being eligible to register are two separate matters, and the second one sits with the registrar.

No. IANA's RDAP bootstrap registry defines no endpoint for .tr, and our measurement on 12 August 2026 confirmed it. Since 28 January 2025 RDAP has been the definitive source of registration data for generic extensions, but that arrangement does not reach country code extensions — each country decides for itself. In practice the port 43 WHOIS service run by TRABIS is the only machine-readable source for .tr.

Query a name nobody holds and the server reports that no match was found, with none of the blocks present; we tested this separately during the measurement. That answer means the name looks free to register, though names reserved under policy can look empty in exactly the same way. To keep such answers fresh we cache apparently available names for five minutes only, against six hours for registered ones.
